The Things Of Beauty

Hi folks,

I am so delighted. I have just added two new members to la familia of my sewing machines. I found these two things of beauty on Gum Tree for a bargain last week and I just thought, they were meant to be mine!

Check out my little Singer Circa 1937, which from quick googling around, is a model made in 1950′s. It is missing the right power cord, so I can’t test if it is still working. All the components are solid and moving smoothly. All the parts are clean and look like they would work if I could just plug it in. So if anyone has any lead on where I can get parts for this little beauty I will appreciate it muchly. Don’t you think she is beautiful?

Another family member I have recently adopted is this industrial Juki DDL 545! I have never owned an industrial sewing machine before and when I sew her, it was love at first sight! I just had to have her! A lady in Frankston wanted to sell this simple but awesome machine because she’s downsizing. She works a magic and I am so excited and can’t wait to make something with her! I can now finally sew some leather and heavy material!

I am looking for a manual for Juki DDL 545, which is an old model of an industrial plain sewer. I can’t seem to find it anywhere so if anyone has any lead, I would really appreciate it. I only found a manual for Juki DDL 555, and I am not sure if it is similar enough.

Have a great weekend guys.

Australia Day @ Charles Street Artists’ Market

Hi everyone,

This is the first post since I´ve been back in Australia. I know. It has been a very long time! But it is a promise for more posts to come.

I’ve finally settled back into my old home (the ever so liveable Melbourne, Australia), felt the comfort, found a place to live and got a part-time job. I have also recently started a new adventure, a very exciting project, which I have to keep secret for until it is done.

And here is a sneak peek into what Chance Of Rain has been up to recently. I was lucky enough to set up my first Australian street market stall on Australia Day with a friend, The Jacks. Unfortunately it was a very quiet, cloudy and windy Saturday and the market had somewhat taking it easy presence. Unfortunately for us, there were a lot of other festivals and parties going on around town on Australia Day like Rainbow Serpent and Big Day Out, which wasn’t good for the market but we still managed to have some fun and relaxing good time. The next Saturday though promises to be a lot crazier!

Charles Street Artists’ Market is on every Saturday, 12-5pm, this February 2013. So go along and check it out the next time it is on. There is live music jam session and it is free. For the artists and designers, the stall is run on a donation basis — so if you don’t make any sales, you do not have to pay a penny. It is really worth just going down to chill out and have fun with the local lovely artists.

Charles Street Artists’ Market is located on 27 Weston Street, Brunswick (just off Sydney Road) in Melbourne.

Chance Of Rain managed to squeeze in a few new mod cycling caps and some polymer clay Triangle Frenzy Pop Earrings. All recycled kimono caps are for sales, if you are interested, shoot me a private message on facebook or c.o.r.by.sai@gmail.com for further details.

It’s good to be back sewing blog world!!

Excuse My Absence!

Hi everyone. Sorry for my absence for the last 2 months on the blog sphere. Life has been hectic, crazy, overwhelming, un-planned, surprising, and a lot of changes have happened. I´ve now moved back home to Melbourne Australia and I´ve left lovely warm Madrid, Spain behind for now.

Chance Of Rain will now be based at home, living amongst koalas, kangaroos and possums.

I am still exhausted from moving country and still finding my new feet in my home. I promise to be back up and running soon with more tutorials and sewing fun!

besitos!

Keiko Room Shoes are done!

Hi everyone. Phew. Look what I’ve just finished making! I made room shoes, which I call Keiko to compliment a japanese tradition of wearing slippers in the house.

So these cute slippers took me a while to finish, and so far I’ve made 8 of them in various sizes. There are quite of few pieces to cut out from the pattern, not too crazy just repetitive. I’ve used a pattern designed by ithinksew and just added little twists here and there to make the design a bit more interesting. Aren’t they cute?
